Hosted by VideoCabaret’s Associate Artist Anand Rajaram, Vox Pop ‘24: The Elephant Rolls Over will be an evening of satire, music and scintillating banter. VideoCabaret is on the brink of its 50th anniversary and we’re fundraising our way toward a gleaming future. Will we outlive democracy?
7:00 pm Doors open. Amid a maze of remastered footage from the VideoCab vault, enjoy the affordable cash bar. Then head for the buffet table crafted by culinary enthusiast Sandy Balcovske. You’ll find an array of finger food and tiny plates. Something for everyone - liberal, conservative, carnivore, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, nut free.
7:45 pm Video appearances from surprise guests; performances by Hummer Sister Jenny Dean and singer-songwriter/visual artist Kurt Swinghammer — and America On The Brink, a panel of Pulitzer-worthy journalists moderated by writer and filmmaker Brian D. Johnson:
• The Globe and Mail’s Ian Brown, fresh off his epic bus tour of America;
• Liz Renzetti, author of the new, critically acclaimed book What She Said;
• Globe columnist and Canadian-American patriot Johanna Schneller, will pop in to report live from Pennsylvania, where she’ll be working as poll watcher.
9:15 pm Network TV will be live-streamed in the theater as returns pour in. We’ll watch with bated breath while news anchors prematurely announce winners before polling stations are closed. Back at the buffet, we’ll eat our feelings, replenished with sweet treats. And we’ll drown our fears together by the bar.
No matter what Nov 6th brings, we’ll always have Nov 5th.
