The previous play, Trudeau and the FLQ, dramatized the first two years of Trudeau's Prime Ministership, turning on the brutal confrontation between irreconcilable visions of French Canada: one of Les Canadiens governing their Canadian homeland from sea to sea; the other of Les Quebecois governing la Patrie, Quebec.

Trudeau and the PQ continues the story from 1971, as the Parti Quebecois rises and Maggie Trudeau declines, as Trudeau and Levesque face-off in the 1980 Quebec Referendum and the Gang of Eight stick it to Quebec on the Night of the Long Knives. Through the high-profile plots runs the hush-hush intrigue of PQ Minister of Inter-Governmental Affairs Claude Morin, framer of the 1980 Quebec Referendum, and RCMP Agent.
